Sunday morning came and with it a drop in the wind, which still came from the East but was only at some 5-7 knots. The weather was also warmer which made it very pleasant for competitors and the many spectators alike.
23 skippers made it to the Seeding start lines and once again the leading four skippers from Saturday Brad Gibson, Peter Stollery, Darin Ballington and Graham Bantock were all at the front of the fleets and were joined by a fast improving Tony Guerrier who obviously enjoyed the lighter conditions. Darin Ballington was not having such a good morning.
By lunchtime Graham was in 1st place, Peter in 2nd, Tony in 3rd with Brad in 4th after a poor (by his standard) second race, and getting hooked on a buoy in the fourth.
The question on everybody’s mind was, will Graham win?
After lunch the wind dropped even further, which made it more difficult for the skippers, especially after a couple of slight wind shifts.
Graham continued to sail well in the afternoon session, but could not match Brad’s three firsts and a 2nd and despite Graham winning the last race, after all the results and discards were taken into account Brad came out on top with Graham a point behind. Congratulations to both skippers on giving us all a great finish to the event.
As event organiser I really would like to thank all those members of the NMYC for giving up their time to help run the event.
