Coalhouse Fort MBC hosted the Micro Magic Open Event on Saturday 12th April 2014, which started as a bright but cloudy day but changed to an overcast chilly afternoon. The wind was primarily from the South South West varying to South West averaging 12 mph and gusting up to 19 mph at times. This left the competitors on either ‘A’ or ‘B’ rigs for most of the day on what was basically a Windward Leeward course.
After the first five races when the first discard kicked in Peter Spence was leading on six points with Buzz Coleman second on 9 points and Mike Weston and Clive Cokayne joint third on 11 points. However, by race 10 when the second discard came into being Buzz Coleman was now leading on 13 points but only just from Peter Spence who was on 14 points with Clive Cokayne third on 20 points. By race 15 when the third discard was taken into account, the positions remained the same with Buzz still leading by one point on 19 points, with Peter second on 20 points and Clive third on 30 points. At the end of the day after 20 races the top three positions remained the same, although Buzz had managed to pull out a slender lead and finished on 23 points, with Peter Second on 26 points and Clive third on 40 points.
The very few incidents that did occur were very quickly settled on the water thanks to the very good behaviour by all skippers – an enjoyable day was had by one and all.
