Eastern District Marblehead Ranking (12/04/15) Day 2

The day started very differently to Saturday with bright sunshine to welcome the 25 skippers to the Chelmsford Radio Yacht Clubs Channels Lake to take part in this second Ranking Event.

Race Officer Graham Childs assisted by George Beacroft set a zigzag course due to the predominantly South Westerly gusting wind.

After the seeding races the course was adjusted to take account of the less than helpful variable wind direction. The course was under review and changed frequently throughout the days sailing. Due mainly to the conditions the rescue boat manned by Malcolm Harris and Roy Joslin were frequently called upon to retrieve wayward boats or those out of control in the middle of the lake, (no peace for the wicked, lads). Due to the strengthening wind around the lunch break C rigs were changed to C2 or lower to make sailing less hazardous. Even so two boats were brought in with serious damage that required one to withdraw and the other claim his repair time.

Due to the time lost and the earlier finish time only 7 races were run (probably enough in these testing conditions).

Most of those taking part reported the fact that they had enjoyed the day at Channels and the better weather provided on this 2nd day.

The day was again one by Brad Gibson and closely followed by Graham Bantock and Mark Dennis.
